Because I work with an electric stove, I’ve revised my process slightly. This method avoids boil-overs.
Rice Done Right
A simple process that yields perfectly done rice every time.
Servings: 2 cups
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup white rice rinsed
- 1/4 tsp kosher salt
- 1 dash extra virgin olive oil
- Place everything, except the rice, together in a 2 quart saucepan with a tight fitting lid. Bring to a boil uncovered. Reduce heat to lowest setting, add the rice and stir briefly. Cover, and set a timer for 20 minutes. Walk away. Don't stir it. Don't check it. Don't take the lid off. After 20 minutes, remove lid and check the rice. If any residual liquid remains, replace lid and set a timer for a further five minutes. When done, fluff with a chopstick and serve or use as an ingredient in other dishes.
